Ascension Mining Ships

Participant of CGTrader Awards https://www.cgtrader.com/

One of the core mechanics of my game Ascension Mining was the ability to customize your ship. This mean swapping out parts and weapons for different performances. To do this, I modeled several fuselages, cockpits, and wings that all had to fit together and have radically different silhouettes. All together, these parts allow for over 40,000 unique ship configurations.

I also had to create special textures for a custom shader that would allow you to change the primary/secondary paint colors while maintaining all the dirt and grit that would be overlaid on top of it.

This video shows off several parts and how they are put together to create a complete ship.

All of the parts together. There are 9 cockpits, 6 fuselages, and 8 sets of wings.

One possible configuration, using the high res meshes. This ship would have been quite fragile but also very fast.

Another possible configuration, using the high res meshes. This one would be slow, but well armored and have a high ammo capacity.
